Kat Morris was born on the west coast, ping-ponging between Sacramento, Seattle and the Bay Area. With a mom who was a Bradley instructor, she was raised in the birth community, playing with “toys” like birth balls and plastic pelvises. At a young age, Kat was a helper and knew that as an adult, whatever she did, it was important to her that she was helping others. Before her 16th birthday, Kat and her parents moved from California to Tennessee, landing, by chance, in Franklin.

In early adulthood, Kat supported a few close friends in their births, but it was after experiencing the uphill battle of a natural birth of her own that she decided to be a source of empowerment and advocacy for other women. After continuing to learn more about the certification process and talking to other doulas, she completed her training through DONA International and received certification as a childbirth educator. One of Kat’s favorite things is teaching classes; getting the chance to dig in to a couples’ specific questions and unique stories and fears around pregnancy and birth is a way in which she feels she is making an impact.

Kat currently lives in Franklin with her husband, Matt and their daughter, Piper. When she’s not working with doula clients or teaching classes, she works as a portrait and family photographer and volunteers with Williamson County CASA as an advocate for children in the juvenile court system. She’s happy to report that she’s passed on one important thing from her own childhood - Piper’s favorite toy is Kat’s peanut ball.

What students have said…

“Kat was super helpful and informative! We definitely feel more prepared for labor, and educated on all things.” Hannah D.

“We really enjoyed the class and liked how it was very conversational. The curriculum hit a lot of topics, and we really liked that we were able to take a one-day intensive instead of splitting the content up over several classes.” K & B Miller

“The one day class was packed full of information. I really appreciated the format and atmosphere that was created to help my husband and I learn together. I was especially encouraged by Kat and her empathy/education for not only the physical side of pregnancy/birth, but also the emotional and psychological side as well. It resonated deeply with me as a first time mom. I’ve already encouraged one of my pregnant friends to take the class!” Alison M.
